OY-RAAMP Trains Stakeholders on Environmental Best Practices for Rural Roads Project.


The Oyo State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OY-RAAMP) has trained stakeholders on Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP) compliance, focusing on mitigating environmental hazards in rural road projects.

Speaking at the two-day workshop held at Tee’s Hotel and Suites in Oyo Town, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, emphasized the need for sustainable practices that balance development with environmental protection and social responsibility.

Speaking through the Director, Regulation and Enforcement, Mr. Olusegun Ezekiel, Olaleye noted that infrastructure projects can pose risks to communities if not properly managed.

"The decisions we make in planning, implementing, and monitoring our projects will impact our communities for generations. This training equips stakeholders to prevent environmental hazards," Olaleye stated.

The Project Coordinator, Engr. Mrs. Adeola Ekundayo, highlighted the project's achievements under Governor Seyi Makinde's leadership, including the commencement of construction and rehabilitation of 65km of rural roads in Phase 1 and preparations for Phase 2, saying that the event aimed at training the Consultant, the Contractors and the Greiviance Redress Committees on the project. 

In their separate presentations, Dr. Lawal Adegboyega, Environmental and Social Safeguard Expert, and Mrs. Sani Joan, Gender-Based Violence Expert, both from the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), have lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for his unwavering support of the Oyo State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (OY-RAAMP).

The experts highlighted that the OY-RAAMP, which was once in a critical state akin to being in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), has now become a model project for other participating states due to the governor’s proactive leadership.

They also urged contractors involved in the project to strictly adhere to World Bank standards, emphasizing the importance of promptly notifying the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) of any emerging issues to prevent escalation.

Makinde Confirms Appointment of Engr. Mrs. Ekundayo as RAAMP Project Coordinator.

Governor Makinde of Oyo State has finally approved the appointment of Engr. Mrs Olufunke Ekundayo as substantive Coordinator of the State Rural Access and Agriculture Marketing Project (RAAMP). This was contained in a letter signed by Oyo State Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni  stating that the appointment takes effect from May, 2024. It could be recalled that Oyo State as one of the participating states of Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, RAAMP has been without a substantive Coordinator since the former Coordinator retired from active service in 2019 with extension till November, 2022. OYOSUBEB Nabs Job Seeker Over Alleged Result Falsification.

The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, OYOSUBEB, on Thursday evening nabbed one Abosede Ojo, a middle aged job seeker who allegedly falsified her job portal result. Dr. Nureni Adeniran, OYOSUBEB's Chairman, said the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation.  Adeniran said that the suspect, who sat for the recruitment cbt examination scored 36, but decided to connive with an examination syndicate who allegedly produced a fake congratulatory message for her. He explained that the suspect was apprehended during a verification exercise put in place by the Board, for qualified candidates. Adeniran further explained that the suspect confessed that she did not come for the interview, but liaised with her husband to get herself a congratulatory message.
