Oyo State Government Commences 2025 World Food Day Celebration with Jumat Service
The Oyo State Government on Friday commenced activities marking the 2025 World Food Day celebration with a Jumat Service held at the Secretariat Mosque, Agodi, Ibadan.
The event was attended by dignitaries, government officials, and farmers from across the state. Special prayers were offered for farmers, the Government and people of Oyo State, as well as for the peace and prosperity of Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Abosede Owoeye, who represented the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, highlighted the importance of the 2025 World Food Day theme — “Hand in Hand for a Better Food and a Better Future.”
She noted that the theme emphasizes collaboration among all stakeholders - government, private sector, farmers, and development partners — to build a more resilient and inclusive food system capable of ensuring food sufficiency and economic stability.
According to her, “The essence of today’s prayer is to seek divine guidance and blessings for our farmers and for continued progress in the agricultural sector. Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration remains committed to supporting farmers and promoting initiatives that enhance food production and rural development.”
Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), Dr. Kola Badmus, and other notable officials, stakeholders, and representatives of farmers’ associations.
The 2025 World Food Day celebration continues with a Special Thanksgiving Service at St. Peter’s Church, Aremo, Ibadan, on Sunday, October 12, a Fitness Walk on Monday, October 13, and a Symposium and Exhibition on Wednesday, October 15, where stakeholders will deliberate on strategies to improve food systems and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
The celebration will culminate on Thursday, October 16, with a grand exhibition of agricultural produce showcasing the richness and diversity of Oyo State’s agricultural potential, as well as the innovative contributions of farmers and agripreneurs across the state.
