Oyo State Government, Farmers Hold Thanksgiving Service to Mark 2025 World Food Day

As part of activities lined up to celebrate the 2025 World Food Day, the Oyo State Government, in collaboration with farmers across the state, gathered in large numbers at St. Peter’s Cathedral, Aremo, Ibadan, for a special thanksgiving service to appreciate God and seek His continued blessings on the agricultural sector.
In his remarks, the Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barr. Olasunkanmi Olaleye, described farmers as the pillar of human existence, noting that “without farmers, there can be no nation.”
He emphasized that the Governor Seyi Makinde–led administration remains committed to agricultural transformation through various palliatives and programs aimed at ensuring food security in the state.

Barr. Olaleye stated that the noticeable reduction in food scarcity across the state is a testament to the government’s efforts and policies in the sector. He added that the tractorization initiative introduced by the present administration has significantly eased the burden of mechanized farming for farmers.

While appreciating the contributions of farmers, the Commissioner urged members of the congregation and the general public to embrace backyard farming as a sustainable means of boosting food availability and reducing household expenses.

In his sermon, the Diocesan and Archbishop of Ibadan Province, The Most Revd. Williams Funmilayo Aladekugbe, commended both the Federal and Oyo State Governments for implementing impactful agricultural programs that have led to a gradual reduction in food prices across the state and the nation.
He encouraged farmers not to relent in their efforts to feed the nation, describing their work as a divine calling and a patriotic duty. Prayers were offered for farmers, the Oyo State Government, and the Federal Government for continued success in ensuring food sufficiency and national prosperity.
