RAAMP: Oyo State Government Organises Security Training for Stakeholders to Ensure Hitch-Free Civil Works

As part of efforts to facilitate the smooth implementation of the first phase of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), involving the construction of approximately 68km of rural roads, the Oyo State Government has organized a two-day security workshop for RAAMP stakeholders.

The workshop, held at A3 Hotel, Ibadan, was declared open by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, who stated that the RAAMP initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to improving rural livelihoods through enhanced road connectivity.

Speaking through the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Abosede Owoeye, the Commissioner emphasized the critical role of rural communities in the state’s economic development, describing them as the backbone of the economy.

He further noted that the success of RAAMP hinges on effective security measures, citing the multifaceted nature of rural security challenges — from the protection of physical infrastructure to ensuring the safety of community members, project staff, and contractors.

“This workshop is a proactive step towards addressing potential security challenges in project locations,” Olaleye said, “bringing together key stakeholders, security experts, and implementation partners to facilitate knowledge sharing and strategic planning.”

He encouraged all participants to engage actively and contribute meaningfully to the success of the initiative.
In her remarks, the State Project Coordinator, RAAMP, Engr. Mrs. Adeola Ekundayo, highlighted that the workshop brought together consultants, contractors, the Grievance Redress Committee (GRC), and the State Project Implementation Unit. She noted that the training would improve the safety of lives and property before, during, and after the completion of the roads.

Speaking on “Security Threats, Physical Security, Access Control and Crime Prevention Strategies for Stakeholders of RAAMP,” the Technical Assistance (TA) for RAAMP, retired Colonel Moses Oketola, underscored the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining security throughout the project’s execution. “Security is everyone’s duty. If you see something, say something,” he urged.
Security experts who facilitated the workshop included Major A. Idowu, Commanding Officer, 2 Division Ordnance CGOS, Ibadan; Barrister Adebayo Akinade, Executive Vice President of the Institute of Security Nigeria (ISN); and Deacon Adesola Fagbermi of ISN, among others.
