Oyo State Government Trains 1,380 Farmers in Various Agricultural Enterprises and Value Addition under 2nd Phase

The Oyo State Government has commenced its second phase of capacity building  programmes for farmers on agricultural practices and value addition across the state, aimed at enhancing productivity and strengthening food security.
Declaring the event open today at Ibadan Business School, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye revealed that the training was to empower farmers on various Agricultural Enterprises and value addition to boost their productivities and adversely increase food security in the state. 
The Commissioner emphasized that access to adequate information and knowledge of modern farming techniques is essential for farmers to sustain their agricultural practices, noting that many have abandoned farming due to information gaps.
Speaking through the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Abosede Owoeye, Barrister Olaleye highlighted that this second phase will train a total of 1,380 farmers across multiple agricultural enterprises to enhance their productivity and livelihoods in the sector.

"Today marks the continuation of our transformative initiative, designed to equip farmers with valuable knowledge and skills that will enhance their productivity and livelihoods in the agricultural sector," said the Commissioner.

The comprehensive training program includes: 660 participants receiving training in fisheries and value addition
380 participants learning about animal health and public health considerations for cattle breeding
340 farmers being trained in pest control and warehouse management to minimize post-harvest losses.

Barrister Olaleye commended the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde for its unwavering support and commitment to agricultural development in Oyo State. He urged participants to take full advantage of the training opportunity, emphasizing its importance for success in agricultural enterprises.

The training sessions are being conducted simultaneously at the House of Chiefs and Ibadan Business School, with plans to extend coverage across all senatorial districts in the state.
