Oyo State Government Launches 50% Tractorization Subsidy for 2025 Planting Season,Trains Agricultural Extension Officers on Booking Procedures.
In a move to boost food security and support farmers across the state, the Oyo State Government has commenced a 50% subsidy on farm plowing under its 2025 Tractorization Program.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, made this announcement during a press briefing, held today at the Ministry's Conference Room in Ibadan.
Barr. Olaleye revealed that beginning next week, farmers can book for subsidized mechanical plowing services through Agricultural Extension Officers in their respective Local Government Areas as well as the ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, saying government will cover 50% of the total cost of these services.
“I wish to inform all farmers in Oyo State that registration for the 2025 Tractorization Subsidy Programme is now open,” the Commissioner said. “Farmers can register through Agricultural Extension Officers, at the Ministry’s headquarters, or via the online booking platform.”
He further noted that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde is committed to surpassing last year’s achievements in the agricultural sector. In 2024, approximately 5,090.91 acres of farmland were plowed, benefiting 1,487 farmers under the subsidy program.
To ensure smooth implementation, Barr. Olaleye disclosed that Agricultural Extension Officers have been trained on modern techniques and digital tools for efficient service delivery. Additionally, a dedicated helpline has been established to assist farmers with the booking process and address any service-related challenges.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), Sheik Taofeek Akeugbagold, highlighted the inclusivity of the program. “This initiative is open to all farmers in the state, regardless of political affiliation. When registering, farmers must provide their full names, number of acres to be plowed, farm location, and make payment of the subsidized 50% cost into the designated bank account,” he explained.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Abosede Owoeye, reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to empowering farmers through strategic interventions that promote agricultural development. She noted that the success of last year’s program contributed significantly to the reduction in food prices across the state.
Mrs. Owoeye concluded by emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to expanding the program's reach, improving service delivery, and increasing agricultural productivity throughout Oyo State.
