*Eid-el-Kabir: Oyo State Government Distributes Festival Commodity Advance to 2,500 Civil and Public Servants*
Addressing the beneficiaries today at the Corporation’s premises, Total Garden, Agodi, Ibadan, the Chairman, Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State (ACCOS), Sheikh Taofeek Akeugbagold, stated that the initiative was part of the administration’s efforts under Governor Seyi Makinde to support the welfare of civil and public servants, particularly during festive seasons.
He noted that over 5,000 public workers had benefited from the scheme so far, added that the commodities, which include rams, bags of rice, vegetable oil, and other food items, were made available at subsidized rates well below current market prices.
Sheikh Akeugbagold explained that the beneficiaries will repay the cost of the commodities through a structured repayment plan spread over three months, with deductions made directly from their salaries. He emphasized that the intervention was necessitated by the recent hike in the prices of essential commodities, especially during festive periods.
According to him, Governor Makinde directed the Corporation to provide this form of economic relief to workers to ensure they celebrate the festival with ease and joy, despite current economic challenges.
The Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State reiterated its readiness to expand the scheme in future editions to accommodate more workers, as part of the government’s broader agenda to promote inclusive economic support and social stability, and however, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the well-being of its workforce.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Kunle Adeyemo, expressed appreciation to the government for the timely intervention. He said the initiative would enable his family to partake in the Ileya celebration in a happy and dignified manner.
